Fishers: Ray & Sima Priewe. 

Ray has just submitted his application to join MOAS.
Largest fish: Sima a 14.5 in Sheephead.
She actually caught two using live shrimp.
Biggest rock: Byron

We fished Silvertooth Reef off Sarasota in 30-32' water.

Next YAHOO Fishing Outing 21 March in Sarasota Bay.

You may recall that Jim has been passionate in his efforts over the past two years to lead our partnership and participation in meeting the objectives of the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Vietnam War and, in particular, "To thank and honor veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held as prisoners of war (POW), or listed as missing in action (MIA), for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States and to thank and honor the families of these veterans", and to ensure that all Vietnam Veterans, their surviving spouses and family members receive their commemorative pins.

Military Officers Learn About Drone Robots That Fly, Swim, and Crawl


Southwest FL – Navy Captain John E. Jackson, a Professor at the U.S. Naval War College, gave a fascinating and especially relevant presentation on the latest in drone warfare and unmanned operations. He covered everything from the history behind the first use of unmanned devices to the latest prototypes waiting to be fielded by our
military.

Professor Jackson started by introducing the first recorded unmanned vehicle, the 1918 Kettering “Bug” used by our military for target practice by anti-aircraft units. He then explained the tactical advantages of drones, describing the technology used to allow a pilot in America to control a drone flying over Afghanistan or Iraq. The uses and capabilities of several drones were discussed including the MQ-1 Predator, the RQ-4 Global Hawk, the RQ-170 Sentinel and many others. Our military and aerospace companies are also developing a multitude of new drones that can dive to depths of 11,000 ft. below the oceans; or carry 6,000 lbs. of equipment through the air; or disarm bombs without putting humans in danger. Professor Jackson finished his presentation by covering some of the legal and ethical issues associated with utilizing drones along with some unintended consequences.

John E. Jackson is a professor in the Naval War College’s College of Distance Education. He teaches in the area of Theater Security Decision Making, and manages the Chief of Naval Operations’ Professional Reading Program. Since November 2009 he has taught a highly regarded elective course entitled “Unmanned Systems and Conflict in the 21st Century”. We have locked in 40 seats for MOAS YAHOO for Wednesday 1 March 2017 at 1:05 Red Sox vs Orioles MLB Spring Training game. We are in Box 214 and have seats in the first four rows. Our seats are located just to the 3rd base side behind home. According to the Orioles, this will be a sellout game, so do not miss a chance to attend.
