Siesta Key Beach Sunset Gathering YAHOO Report

YAHOO Report: Siesta Key Beach Sunset Gathering.

A good time was had by all. Woz arrived early (1815) to plant the American & Marine Corps flags on the beach next to the water's edge. The winds picked up and the rain started to come down/across horizontally really hard.

Digging two holes with his bare hands, because he left the shovel at home, Woz finally erected both flags in the downpour. With both flags finally secured with an 18" mound of sand, Woz struggled to deploy his camper chair and have a beer.

Not many people passed by on the beach (four), but one lone jogger saluted the flag as he went by. Many pictures were taken of the lone YAHOO Member in attandance, the storm and lightning flashes (see attached).

Brian & Valerie McCarthy, Craig & Beth Hullinger, George & Kay Tracy,  George & Judith Hofmann, Lesli Kelsey, and Linda Wozniak all perviously notified Woz they could not attend.

There may have been more YAHOO folks out there somewhere, but Woz never saw any. Woz stayed for the sunset, which was completely obscured by the storm, and departed at  2030.

MOAS YAHO Coordinators

By establishing the MOAA beachhead despite terrible weather, demonstrating bold leadership, wise? judgment, and complete dedication to duty, LtCol Ron Wozniak USMCR Retired reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service and the United States Military.

The Best Laid Plans go oft agley. Reminds me of a number of our military exercises.

Member Access

Dear MOAS Member,

This is just a quick note to thank you for your MOAA Sarasota (MOAS) Chapter membership and to advise you (or remind you) that you have "Member Login" account access to the your MOAS web site by going to our public web site at http://www.sarasotamoaa.com/, clicking on the RED Member Login box in the upper right hand corner of the home page and logging in to your account setup page using your temporary ID code, sarasotamoaa, and your temporary password, your last name, Hullinger, all lower case! This will give you access to your own account admin page to establish your preferred user login and password for continued access to "Members Only " content.

In reviewing our chapter roster, I find that too many members, perhaps including you, have not yet registered and completed their account setups for access to the MOAS Chapter "Members Only" web site content!

As we become more and more sensitive to your "Members Only" needs for accessible, relevant  information via our chapter web site, we expect to enhance this service to be more and more beneficial to you. But, you can appreciate that such an objective understandably depends on member use and member feedback.

So, if you have not set up your account, please do so!! And, of course, if you have, take your first (or another) orientation walk-through and tell us what you think.

We are here to serve you and, with you, to actively and effectively advocate for the rights and benefits of all military Veterans and their families!! It's an honor to do so!!

Let me know if you need further assistance! Thanks for your time and your support!!

MOAA Learns About Sarasota as an Age Friendly Community

Military Officers Association Learns About Sarasota Among Others as an Age Friendly Community

Southwest FL – Sarasota committed to becoming an Age-Friendly Community in 2015 and is actively working to ensure that we are a community that is indeed friendly to all ages. As we live and grow in our communities we want to stay active and engaged throughout our lives. With over 450 age-friendly communities worldwide, it is notable that Sarasota was the first community in the state of Florida to become part of the Age Friendly movement.
Now there are over 16 other communities in Florida working to ensure they are age friendly. The World Health Organization (WHO) designates (8) broad domains that help influence health and quality of life; Civic Participation & Employment, Respect & Social Inclusion, Social Participation, Outdoor Spaces & Public Buildings, Transportation, Housing, Community Support & Health Services, and Communication & Information. These are areas in our community that are being researched to determine which are already strong or which could perhaps be improved. For more information or to provide some input, visit www.agefriendlysarasota.org.
SAVE THE DATE: On Saturday, Oct 28th at the Sarasota Fairgrounds, an Age-Friendly Festival will be presented to our community as a gift from The Patterson Foundation. This will be the first time globally for this type of event to educate and involve a community in the meaning and importance of a community being friendly to all ages! There will be opportunities to provide your input on how to make our community even better, to learn about organizations with age friendly programs, and lots of organizations seeking volunteers if you are looking for a way to get more involved in the community! We will provide additional information at future luncheons.
MOAS is the Sarasota Chapter of Military Officers Association of America. MOAA is the nation’s largest and most influential association of military officers with 370,000 members. It is an independent, nonprofit, politically nonpartisan organization. For more information visit, www.sarasotamoaa.com Are you a former military officer? Please come and join us at our monthly luncheon.

YAHOO Events

September 2017 YAHOO Events

YAHOO Young at Heart Officers Organization
Coordinators Ron & Linda Wozniak
We are still looking for ideas & volunteers to organize future YAHOO events.

On Wednesday, 9 August, we had our 1st “no cost” pre-Meet & Greet boat cruise on Sarasota Bay.

Participants were; Brian & Valerie McCarthy, George & Kay Tracy, Pete & Claudette Dering, Joe & Denise Jennings, Ron & Linda Wozniak. Pete & Woz captained two pontoons from Freedom Boat Club at Marina Jack. We slowly cruised south out of the harbor and back in about 90 minutes. Everyone expressed they had a good time and would certainly do it again. Seas were calm, weather was warm, and no rain. We had room for 10 more, so next time we do this, probably in November, sign up early to reserve your spot(s). Watch the Breeze for details.

Afterwards we joined 20 MOAS land lovers for our 1st Meet & Greet at Marina Jack’s Palm Room, which is inside & air conditioned. An overwhelming majority (93%), said they would like to return to Marina Jack for the next Meet & Greet on Wednesday 15 September. Hope to see you there.

It was too close to press time to report in this issue the YAHOO Near Offshore Fishing Outing Monday 14 August in Gulf of Mexico off Anna Maria Island. Look for “the catch” in October’s issue.

SAVE THE DATES FOR YAHOO!!!

Siesta Key Beach Sunset Picnic

1830 Wednesday 23 August.

The YAHOOs will celebrate why they enjoy SW Florida by gathering on the beach at the north end of the Siesta Key Beach Park to watch the sunset and share commuting stories.
This event is characterized as “spontaneous” since there is no plan and no RSVP. Come as you are, and bring your own grog, food and chairs – just show up. The US and Marine Corps flags will mark the gathering spot at the North end of the beach park, and will be on station by 1830.
The sun sets at 1959 so you will want to arrive in plenty of time to socialize before then.
Special Note: No glass containers are allowed on the beach – only plastic and cans.
See? No Plan!!!!

Chicago Cubs vs Tampa Bay Rays 1910 Tuesday 19 September, Tropicana Field, St Pete.
We have asked the Tampa Bay Rays to save a block of 40 seats for this Cubs vs. Rays game.
The cost is $40 per seat. Cutoff date for making you reservation is Friday 25 August.
Chartering a bus was investigated, but the cost questionable not knowing number attending game and, location for pickup/drop off difficult to choose because of widespread membership.
We encourage carpooling. Hope to see you at the game.
As of 12 August, we have only 11 seats reserved and paid for. If we do not get more interest and a check to reserve seats for in this outing, we will lose our block of 40 seats, so please make your check payable to Ron Wozniak ASAP & mail to: Ron Wozniak, 207 68th Street NW, Bradenton, FL 34209-2227.
