MOAS Social Marketing Report 2015

Informing the Troops
We continue to develop our MOAS social marketing effort. This augments our Web Site, the Breeze and email notifications. It should also help us to recruit younger officers who use social marketing systems.

We operate on the time honored military communication system of telling the troops, then telling them again, and then telling them again. Our social media amplifies the word we spread with the Breeze, or Web Site, emails, and luncheons.

We continue to try to engage our membership.  Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest encourage members to interact with and post information to our pages.

We post information Blog which members can find from our Web Site. The address is sarasotamoaa.us which forwards to sarasotamoaa.blogspot.com.Here we publish an unlimited number of photos, notices and stories. We post a great deal of information in the left column, including many older photos, and social links to National MOAA and DOD. We also post this information our other social media links.

If you are active on any of those systems please friend or link with us and contribute content to the site. We are always interested in content or photos so you can also email them to me and I will post them. Or you can post directly to our Facebook or LinkedIn pages.
The systems below encourage communication among our members and potential members. We communicate to our members, but on these systems they can also communicate with us. The addresses of our pages are:

Facebook  facebook.com/SarasotaMOAA

LinkedIn    linkedin.com/in/sarasotamoaa

Twitter       twitter.com/SarasotaMOAA

Pinterest    pinterest.com/sarasotamoaa

We use the email address sarasotamoaa@gmail.com

More about our systems at:  sarasotamoaa.us

and socialmarketingmoas.blogspot.com

National MOAA has a similar social marketing effort. Their addresses are below and can also be found in the left column of our blog. They maintain a video channel.

Blog     moaa.org/blogs

Other DOD agencies and each service are also developing their own social marketing systems. You can find them easily with a google search. A few select addresses below:

facebook.com/DeptofDefense

Social marketing is a free way to get out the word. It is growing rapidly, especially with younger officers. Please help us to build the content on these systems.

We also post a number of photos of our events. You can find a four year history of photos on the left column of our blog.

Military Retirement Reforms Coming

MILITARY OFFICERS ASSOCIATION

Military retirement reforms coming

During a recent meeting of the Sarasota Chapter of Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), Curtis L. Gilroy talked about the ongoing debate about service personnel costs and how to best manage them. In his presentation, Gilroy said that the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act includes major reforms to the retirement system that will go into effect in 2018.

Gilroy served six Secretaries of Defense and was the official Department of Defense spokesperson for the U.S. All-Volunteer Force.

He told the MOAA members that other proposed changes in the Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commission did not get a warm reception in Congress.

Gilroy said that he believes that there will be changes to what most military officers have known as the gold standard for retirement plans. What effects, if any, to the retired community are unknown at this point, but it bears close monitoring.

Gilroy added that the same experts who have been working on personnel reform are now focused for 2016 on military health care reform.

He said that MOAA members should expect to be affected by that effort. Gilroy then urged members to keep the MOAA Take Action icon on their desktop and communicate their concerns to congress.

MOAA is the nation’s largest association of military officers with 400,000 members. It is an independent, nonprofit and nonp artisan organization. For more information visit www.sarasot! amoaa.com.

Happy Hour / Meet and Greet

Wine Tasting Contest - MARINES BEAT ARMY!!

At The O Club of the Day

Army Versus Marines

Face Off

Kind of a pre Army Navy Game

On Friday the 11th of December

Colonel Troy Scott USA and Colonel Craig Hullinger USMC

were in a grudge match.  Each guy thought he was a wine and beer connesewer. They each selected a wine available for tasting - bottles in a brown paper bag and which bottle is Army and which is Marine were unknown to participants until after the tasting and voting. Participants vote thus determining which branch of the service is the best.

Marines Won !!!!  The vote was strongly in favor of the Marine Wine (1 Vote).  But Troy took  it like a man when he was awarded the bird for his performance.  (Truth - the Marine could not tell the difference in taste and gave the honor? of selecting the wine to the Army.)

The Army got air support from the Air Force, and the Marine Corps is relied on support from the Navy and Coast Guard.

The wine was be cheap in keeping with the ground pounder rough and tough nature of the two services - hey, we are not high rolling zoomies or swabbies or coasties here.

We have recreated the camaraderie of the O' Club that we enjoyed in our younger days. Please join us at the Club.

No cost except for what you eat or drink - No Reservations.

Spouses and friends are encouraged to attend.

The Vineyard has two intimate rooms in the rear and a large wine tasting area.

We plan on making this our O'Club of the Day for some time.  Hope you can join us at the Happy Hour.
