Legacy of Valor - The Patterson Foundation

As The Patterson Foundation (TPF) continues to work with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs -- National Cemetery Administration on building and donating Patriot Plaza at Sarasota National Cemetery, and as our Legacy of Valor campaign with the local community unfolds, there is much to share.

When we learned of Philanthropy Roundtable’s convening of donors working in the veteran and military family realm, we wanted to be part of this opportunity to build connective tissue. During the session, “Serving Those Who Served,” upwards of 100 philanthropic “passionaries’” shared a wide range of programs for veterans and military families with recurring themes such as:

There are vast opportunities to serve those who have served, but do it without harming.

Veterans have many skills, talents and aspirations, which do not make them charity cases, but rather they are positioned to do great things.

Learn from others. No need to invent, but rather build upon what works.

Like all people, some veterans do need help. It may be just temporary. Don’t assume or support policies that restrict their freedom to achieve their potential.

Work with others to optimize impact.
